About

Purpose

Mountain Youth Rugby (MYR) exists to teach the sport of rugby to boys and girls in grades K-8 in the mountain communities around Conifer, Evergreen, and Bailey, Colorado.

MYR is focused on developing players for a lifelong love of rugby in a safe and fun environment. No prior rugby experience is necessary for any age group.

Founded in 2010, MYR is a volunteer-run organization where all proceeds are reinvested directly into the program to benefit as many young rugby players in the area as possible.

Spring Season

MYR participates in Rugby Colorado's Spring TRY developmental league, which typically has jamborees/games on Saturdays for six consecutive weeks in May/June. Games usually start on the 3rd Saturday in May, and end on the 4th Saturday in June. Practices start in April, pending spring snow/weather. Registration opens in March. Please visit the MYR Calendar page for more information.

Fall Season

NEW FOR FALL 2023! MYR plans to participate in Rugby Colorado's Fall TRY developmental league, which typically has jamborees/games on Saturdays for six consecutive weeks in September/October. Games usually start on the 2nd Saturday in September, and end on the 2nd Saturday in October. Practices start in August. Registration opens in late July/early August. Please visit the MYR Calendar page for more information.

Teams by Age Group

* Ages are as of May 1 for the Spring season (April-June), and as of September 1 for the Fall season (August-October).

U8 Co-Ed Flag

For ages 5, 6, and 7, which is typically grades K and 1.

U10 Co-Ed Tackle

For ages 8 and 9, which is typically grades 2 and 3.

U12 Co-Ed Tackle

For ages 10 and 11, which is typically grades 4 and 5.

Middle School Girls Tackle

For girls in grades 6, 7, and 8, which is typically ages 12, 13, and 14.

Spring 2023: The Middle School Girls practice with the Middle School Boys. The Middle School Girls play games with/against other clubs' Middle School Girls (not against boys). MYR Middle School Girls combine with other clubs' Middle School Girls to form teams on match days

Future years: If our Middle School Girls numbers are sufficient, we will make every attempt to have a dedicated coach for the Middle School Girls, with the girls practicing separately from the boys (as in years past when our Middle School Girls numbers were higher).

Middle School Boys Tackle

For boys in grades 6, 7, and 8, which is typically ages 12, 13, and 14. **See important information below for 8th graders playing in the Spring season.

All Middle School players will practice together. For games, players will be placed on the team (Middle School Light or Middle School Open) that is the best fit for their developmental level based on age/experience/size. Players can be waivered up or down based on coach discretion, which could evolve as the season progresses.

**8th graders playing in the Spring season:

Starting in 2023, MYR has made the decision to encourage the majority of the 8th grade boys (especially those who have played MYR before) to play with PAC during PAC's spring season, rather than with MYR during the spring TRY league. PAC is the local Boys High School team for the Conifer, Evergreen, and Bailey area. PAC's 15's season runs from January/February to May. The 8th graders who play with PAC play a handful of games against other 8th/9th/10th graders from area teams. This allows the 8th graders who have played with MYR in the past to keep progressing and learning so they can be best prepared for boys high school rugby in the future.

That being said, 8th graders new to rugby are absolutely encouraged to play with MYR in the spring season! 8th graders who play with MYR will be waivered down to play with 6th/7th graders on the Middle School Boys Light team (if they meet Rugby Colorado waiver criteria and have coach approval). Or, if they don’t meet Rugby Colorado waiver criteria for some reason (very rare for a brand new player to rugby), they will be paired up to play with a Middle School Boys Open team made up of players from other area clubs on Saturdays for the jamborees (games) in May/June. All MYR 6/7/8th graders practice together on Tuesdays/Thursdays.
